John P. DiNatale is the senior partner of DiNatale Detective Agency. He began his apprenticeship with his father Phil when he was in his late teens. John accompanied him on surveillances and investigations, took notes during interviews of criminal defendants, penned witness statements learning the art of investigation through practical experience. John apprenticed part-time throughout college and graduate school. He joined his father in 1976 with eight years experience. After 43 years, John has conducted and supervised over 10,000 investigations for Massachusetts' elite criminal and civil attorneys, corporations and insurance companies.

John is a charter member of the Licensed Private Detectives Association of Massachusetts. He served on the Board of Directors for 5 years, and as President from 1994-95.

He has lectured at Suffolk Law and the New England School of Law on interview techniques including securing signed statements from witnesses. He has also lectured on behalf of the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys. His topics included automobile accident investigations, and the product identification of toxic tort claims.

As part of the Massachusetts Bar Association's Annual Conference John was asked to participate in a panel discussion on the electronic access of court records in Massachusetts. He was also a featured speaker at the 2009 Annual Conference of the American College of Trial Lawyers regarding the theft of paintings from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.

John has published several articles in Lawyers Weekly and the Journal of the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys regarding privacy issues, and the use of computers in investigations.

Richard also apprenticed with his father as a teenager, and a co-op student while at Northeastern University. After graduation he attended Northwestern University's Traffic Institute, which provided him a thorough background in accident investigation. Richard has over 35 years investigative experience helping clients successfully navigate through civil, criminal and corporate litigation.

Richard has extensive experience in conducting interviews, obtaining witness statements, witness locates, photography/video. And, he has been involved in and supervised thousands of surveillances as part of civil, domestic and corporate investigations.

He is respected throughout the New England legal community and is committed to a team approach working with clients. He is often part of the legal team when meeting with prospective clients in both criminal and civil cases. This early on approach enables Richard to initiate an investigative strategy with excellent results. He works effectively with experts involved in the case and has organized hundreds of site inspections in both civil and criminal cases.

These are some of the cases Richard has been involved in:

  • The tragic death of Milena DelValle, who died when a three-ton ceiling panel collapsed on her car while driving through Boston's I-90 connection tunnel on July 26, 2006


  • The MBTA commuter train personnel who failed to stop the train to seek emergency medical attention for a passenger suffering cardiac arrest resulting in the passenger's death


  • A severely injured jogger who was struck by an SUV operating on the wrong side of the road by a newspaper delivery person


  • A young doctor who was killed instantly and an insurance executive severely injured when a large elevating scaffolding collapsed and fell to the street below crushing the car the doctor sat in, and severely injuring the insurance executive who was passing by the construction site


  • A case against Chrysler Corporation involving its poorly designed brake system in the early "minivans" which led to a tragic accident and death of four individuals.


  • Lead investigator for the team of lawyers representing the first man charged with the death penalty in New Hampshire in the last half century.
